Each unknown solution only contains one salt, and of the possible ions listed, each cation and anion are used only once in the four unknown solutions.

Justification: 0.01 M AgNO3 – big precipitate - could be Cl-, CO3 2-. 1.0 M HCl – NR – rules out CO3 2-. 0.1 M Na3PO4 – big precipitate – Could be Mg2+, Ca2+. 1.0 M NaOH – big precipitate – Could be Mg2+, Ca2+. 0.1M NaOH - precipitates Mg2+ but not the 0.1M Ca2+ (Introductory Solubility Rules indicate Ca(OH)2 is soluble, however the solubility is low) pH 6-7; vague, but fits literature range. Would think MgCl2 would be lower pH than Ca(OAc)2 but they were very similar. Possible ion combinations: Mg2+ Ca2+ NH4+ Na+ Cl- OAc- NO3 - CO32-
