The Eliquis (apixaban) Opportunity Window: A Timeline to Generic Entry

Eliquis, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer's blockbuster oral anticoagulant ($14.4B in 2025 global sales, one of the world's best-selling drugs), has a real, dated opportunity window still ahead of it. Its core composition-of-matter patent, US 6,967,208, expires November 21, 2026. Thirteen companies have already filed generic applications, and the FDA has already approved two -- Micro Labs Limited (India) and Mylan/Viatris -- but neither can sell in the US yet: a patent settlement blocks commercial launch until April 1, 2028, unless separate, still-active litigation over the formulation patent resolves earlier. Unlike a drug whose patent has already expired and whose generics are already on shelves, this is a window that has not opened yet -- with a real Indian manufacturer already positioned at the front of it.
